China's International Transboundary Rivers - Politics, Security and Diplomacy of Shared Water Resources (Paperback): Lei... China's International Transboundary Rivers - Politics, Security and Diplomacy of Shared Water Resources (Paperback)
Lei Xie, Jia Shaofeng
R1,178 R738 Discovery Miles 7 380 Save R440 (37%) Ships in 9 - 15 working days

China has forty major transboundary watercourses with neighbouring countries, and has frequently been accused of harming its downstream neighbours through its domestic water management policies, such as the construction of dams for hydropower. This book provides an understanding of water security in Asia by investigating how shared water resources affect China's relationships with neighbouring countries in South, East, Southeast and Central Asia. Since China is an upstream state on most of its shared transboundary rivers, the country's international water policy is at the core of Asia's water security. These water disputes have had strong implications for China's interstate relations, and also influenced its international water policy alongside domestic concerns over water resource management. This book investigates China's policy responses to domestic water crises and examines China's international water policy as well as its strategy in dealing with international cooperation. The authors describe the key elements of water diplomacy in Asia which demonstrate varying degrees of effectiveness of environmental agreements. It shows how China has established various institutional arrangements with neighbouring countries, primarily in the form of bilateral agreements over hydrological data exchange. Detailed case studies are included of the Mekong, Brahmaputra, Ili and Amur rivers.

Environmental Activism in China (Paperback): Lei Xie Environmental Activism in China (Paperback)
Lei Xie
R1,380 Discovery Miles 13 800 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Major environmental degradation is a serious problem for China as the country's economy continues to grow at a phenomenal pace. In recent years environmental organisations have begun to emerge in China, and in some cases have had remarkable success in affecting policies which would have had significant adverse impacts on the environment. This book, based on extensive original research, adopts a multi-disciplinary research approach to examine environmental activism in China, focusing on four cities. It analyses the nature, characteristics, strategies, organizational modes and influence of what could be labeled a Chinese environmental movement in-the-making. In particular, this volume highlights the specificities of Chinese environmental activism in an increasingly globalizing world, along with a comparison to the environmental movement in Western Europe and North America.

Corporate Governance of Chinese Multinational Corporations - Case Studies (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020): Runhui Lin, Jean Jinghan... Corporate Governance of Chinese Multinational Corporations - Case Studies (Paperback, 1st ed. 2020)
Runhui Lin, Jean Jinghan Chen, Li Xie
R3,688 Discovery Miles 36 880 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book is the first to explore the issue of corporate governance in China's new corporations. With rapid development over the last two decades, China has seen compelling achievements in overseas investment. Specifically, an increasing number of Chinese companies have been "going out" to become multinational enterprises. From the practical view, corporate governance issues have been identified in the literature as one of the most important factors in determining whether these Chinese multinational enterprises succeed or not. However, existing literature provides little investigation and understanding about corporate governance of Chinese multinational enterprises. This book fills that gap and will be of value to corporate executives, scholars of China's economy, and journalists.

Cultural Impact on Conflict Management in Higher Education (Hardcover): Nancy T. Watson, Lei Xie, Matthew J Etchells Cultural Impact on Conflict Management in Higher Education (Hardcover)
Nancy T. Watson, Lei Xie, Matthew J Etchells
R2,811 Discovery Miles 28 110 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Cultural Impact on Conflict Management in Higher Education shares information regarding conflict management and resolution in higher education from a global perspective. In this book, we introduced many conflict resolution methods from different regions in the world. You can borrow some successful strategies and examine the differences and similarities between contexts. The book shares a conflict resolution model which may direct the reader to start thinking about addressing and managing conflicts from different levels of organizations. This book is a collective work of authors coming from all over the world. We chose higher education as the context because it is a place where diverse thoughts, perspectives, and people come together. Because of the potential richness of diversity on a college campus, the opportunity for conflicts occurs. Managing conflict does not work when there is a "one-way only approach/model" for addressing conflict. Some conflict resolution encompasses multiple dimensions: (a) one's personal beliefs or beliefs about an issue; (b) an individual's personal history in terms of how the conflict was perceived as something to be discussed or not; (c) work culture of the conflict where if `one has a conflict,' the person or unit is messing up or there is a problem person; (d) the unconscious strategies of `face saving' (trying to maintain one's image) present; (e) social hierarchies or relationships; and (f) the diversity dimensions and issues that may be present.

Security and Privacy for Next-Generation Wireless Networks (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019): Sheng Zhong, Hong Zhong, Xinyi Huang,... Security and Privacy for Next-Generation Wireless Networks (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019)
Sheng Zhong, Hong Zhong, Xinyi Huang, Panlong Yang, Jin Shi, …
R2,960 Discovery Miles 29 600 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This timely book provides broad coverage of security and privacy issues in the macro and micro perspective. In macroperspective, the system and algorithm fundamentals of next-generation wireless networks are discussed. In micro-perspective, this book focuses on the key secure and privacy techniques in different emerging networks from the interconnection view of human and cyber-physical world. This book includes 7 chapters from prominent international researchers working in this subject area. This book serves as a useful reference for researchers, graduate students, and practitioners seeking solutions to wireless security and privacy related issues Recent advances in wireless communication technologies have enabled the large-scale deployment of next-generation wireless networks, and many other wireless applications are emerging. The next generation of mobile networks continues to transform the way people communicate and access information. As a matter of fact, next-generation emerging networks are exploiting their numerous applications in both military and civil fields. For most applications, it is important to guarantee high security of the deployed network in order to defend against attacks from adversaries, as well as the privacy intrusion. The key target in the development of next-generation wireless networks is to promote the integration of the human, cyber, and physical worlds. Previous work in Cyber Physical Systems (CPS) considered the connection between the cyber world and the physical world. In the recent studies, human involvement brings new channels and initiatives in this interconnection. In this integration process, security and privacy are critical issues to many wireless network applications, and it is a paramount concern for the growth of next-generation wireless networks. This is due to the open nature of wireless communication and the involvement of humans. New opportunities for tackling these security and privacy issues in next-generation wireless networks will be achieved by leveraging the properties of interaction among human, computers and things.
